When I was in the eleventh grade, I decided I wanted to be a photographer. As a high school student, working as a waitress in my small southern town, I didn't have money to buy a fancy camera. I didn't even have a fancy cell phone to take photos with. Although I did think the walkie talkie function on my Nextel flip phone was pretty cool. For my high school graduation, my parents got me a small point and shoot camera. I don't even remember what brand it was, I just knew it was a camera and I carried it EVERYWHERE.
Looking back I laugh at how horrible my photos were but then again they are still amazing to me, because they are the first images I created and I was so grateful to even have the camera in the first place. I think that little thing lasted me a couple years, until I took it to Six Flags and it got broken. It was so sad and I was devastated when it started taking blank photos then refused to come on.
Since I took it with me everywhere, it was always in my car. One thing I used to do was hang it out the window and take photos while I was driving. Not the smartest or safest thing to do, but I turned out some pretty cool photos that way. Sometimes I still wish I had that little thing when I am driving because I have a tendency to try and stare at something beautiful while I am driving, trying to engrave it into my memory before the moment has literally passed by.
Last night, on the way home from a photoshoot in South Carolina, I was going over the bridge into Savannah and I just had to take a photo. So I quickly reached into my camera bag and grabbed my 6D. Luckily the 50mm lens was on it so I didn't have to worry about trying to change it. With my eyes on the road and left hand on the wheel, I held that camera up into my windshield and just started clicking. I had no clue if I was even getting anything in focus. Well I did, and I was ecstatic when I started looking through the photos. To me, they are beautiful. Totally random, but totally composed and perfect. Life is like that. Very random and unpredictable, but in the end beautiful.
I do not suggest that anyone take photos while driving, so I am going to share mine with you. I even captured the small crescent moon in some!
